2012 State Events
Guidelines for Georgia FCCLA Competitive Events This year Georgia FCCLA will have 8 state competitive events. These events will showcase individual proficiency and achievement in the knowledge of the Family and Consumer Sciences, Culinary, and Education. These events will offer individual skill development and application of learning through individualization and competition. These events are not available at the region level and competitors will not be advancing to national competition. The Georgia FCCLA Competitive Events will recognize accomplishments in individual youth. The belief that everyone can be successful is the foundation of these events. Cooperation and competition are stressed in positive, constructive ways. State EventsChicken Fabrication – an individual event, participants will safely fabricate a chicken into eight pieces, meeting industrial standards. For each component of the event, the participant will demonstrate proper safety and sanitation procedures. Participants must be currently enrolled in a Culinary Arts Class, or have previously taken a Culinary Arts class. Creative Garnishes – an individual event, recognizes participants who demonstrate the ability to creatively use a variety of food ingredients and materials to prepare and display a garnish that would appeal to a customer and employer. Participants must be currently enrolled in a Culinary Arts Class, or has previously taken a Culinary Arts class. Food Safety & Sanitation- an individual event that showcases student’s knowledge of safety and sanitation as it relates to safe and healthy living. Students must be or have been enrolled in a Family and Consumer Sciences or Culinary program. Knife Skills- an individual event that showcases student’s knowledge of knife skills and cuts, knife cut identification and knife skills demonstration. Students must be or have been enrolled in a Culinary program. Extemporaneous Speaking- an individual event that showcases student’s ability to organize and present information about an assigned topic. Students must be enrolled in a Family and Consumer Sciences, Culinary, or Education Program. Baking & Pastry- an individual event, recognizes participants who demonstrate their creativity in creating an original cupcake, including the batter and icing. Participants must be currently enrolled in a Culinary Arts Class, or has previously taken a Culinary Arts class. Digital Storytelling- an individual or partner event (max. 2 persons), recognizes participants who demonstrate their ability to use knowledge and skills gained from their enrollment in an early childhood education course. Participants must prepare a movie that tells a story about the selected GPS. Interior Design- a individual or partner event (max. 2 persons), recognizes participants who demonstrate their ability to use knowledge and skills gained from their enrollment in an interior design course. Participants must create a tri-fold board that showcases elements used in designing a specific space.
General RequirementsAll Georgia FCCLA Competitive Event participants must be state and nationally affiliated members of an FCCLA chapter. Participants must register for and attend the entire State Leadership Conference to officially enter the competitive events. An individual member may participate in only one event in any given year. Individual events evaluate one member’s performance. These events are not open to State STAR Events Competitors. State RecognitionAll participants will receive a certificate of participation.
