Myers Middle
The Myers Middle School FCCLA Club held their annual Officer installation/member initiation ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011. Thirteen Members were installed for the upcoming year. We were delighted to have two FCCLA Alumni in attendance, Ms. Takevia Sawyer, former GA State Officer and Ms. Banecia Baker. The occasion included a family night celebration with a hamburger dinner, performance by the FCCLA Step Team and inspirational words by Ms. Takevia Sawyer, Ms. Sawyer and Ms. Baker are mentors for the club.
The Myers Middle School FCCLA Club spearheaded the "Paint the School Pink Day" on Friday, October 28, 2011. On hand to help celebrate the occasion was Caroline, a pink fire truck on loan from the city of Savannah. The students paid $2.00 for a pink ribbon that was posted throughout the school. After purchasing a ribbon, they were allowed to wear pink for the day. The club raised $500.00, which was presented to the Guardians of the Ribbon. With the Guardians of the Ribbon, all proceeds stay in the community to help with bills, medicines and any other assistance needed by cancer patients and their families.
Myers FCCLA Members attend National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California
More than 6,300 nationwide members, advisers, alumni, and guests of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), gathered in Anaheim, CA July 10-14 for the 2011 National Leadership Conference. Victoria Doublin, a 7th grade student at Myers Middle School and Banecia Baker a senior at Windsor Forest High School was among them. Also attending were Myers Middle School FCCLA Advisers, Mrs. Barbara Baker and Mrs. Jean Bailey. Victoria competed in the STAR EVENTS (Students Taking Action with Recognition) and received a bronze medal for her community service project “Pies for the Needy”. Banecia, a graduating senior at Windsor Forest judged several categories at the National level. She will be attending college in Savannah this fall and will continue to serve as a Mentor for the local Myers Middle School FCCLA Club. Myers FCCLA participates in Membership Drive at Open House
The 2011-2012 FCCLA officers began their year with a membership drive at the school’s open house on August 18. The theme for the display was “You were mint to be in FCCLA”. Officers handed out membership brochures, hand sanitizer safety bookmarks, and of course mints to the prospective new members. An additional 25 new members signed up for the 2011-2012 school year.
