Irwin Couonty HighIrwin FCCLA Takes First with Fair Booth
L to R – Heather Allison, Janna Wright, Robert Aultman, Zoe Poole Imagine – a life without violence, a world with no overweight children, driving and paying attention to what you are doing, and giving back to your community. The fairbooth constructed by the Irwin FCCLA chapter depicted teenagers working on all of these areas through pictures taken during projects and programs carried out by the chapter. In the center of the booth were computer screens mounted in a brick wall with powerpoint presentations running continuously with information about how FCCLA project involvement can help teenagers make wise decisions. The booth also encouraged viewers to use their imagination and make an impact on their worlds.
FCCLA Members Attend Fall Leadership Conference
L to R – Janna Wright, Abby Olds, Kanyssa Goolsby, Anyssa Goolsby September 22-23 – Four FCCLA members attended the Fall Leadership Conference held at the Georgia FFA/FCCLA Center neat Covington. Upon arrival at the center, students participated in a scavenger hunt finding out historical information and interesting facts about the center. They also participated in team building initiatives led by FCCLA state officers. After dinner, participants enjoyed the opening session with motivational speaker followed by a dance sponsored by the FCCLA Foundation. On Friday morning members attended sessions designed to assist them with chapter plans, personal plans about colleges, fundraising ideas, membership campaign ideas, and STAR Events information. The closing session was exciting as winners of various competitions were announced. Janna Wright won the Statesman Award.
CTSO Members Attend B.A.S.I.C. Training

Front row – L to R – Monica Smith, FBLA adviser, Tyler Wright, Chelsea Holden Twenty FBLA, FCCLA, and FFA members from ICHS joined together to participate in B.A.S.I.C. Training at the FFA/FCCLA Center near Covington, GA. B.A.S.I.C. stands for Building and Achieving Success in Chapters. Arrival at the center found the students participating in initiatives to allow them to get to know each other better and learn to trust each other. Early the next morning, students accepted the challenge to get out of their comfort zone and cross the 40 foot high Burma Bridge and Grapevine, propel down a 300 foot zip line, or climba 40 foot high rock climbing wall. After the High Ropes course students divided into two teams and ran the obstacle course. The first obstacle involves working together to get all team members over a 10 foot high wall. Other obstacles include going through a tire suspended about 6 feet in the air, rolling in a tractor tire, sliding on the slippery PVC pipe over a huge mud pit, and finally going up the rope ladder. It was exciting seeing members of all the organizations overcome their fears to try new things and come together as one team. FBLA advisers are Monica Smith and Dianne Engelmann, FCCLA adviser is Pam Haire, and FFA advisers are Shayla Johnson and Ira Tucker.
Irwin FCCLA Attends Fall Rally
Front row – Robert Aultman The Irwin County FCCLA chapter joined with over 4200 other FCCLA members from across the state of Georgia to attend the Fall Rally held at the Georgia National Fair. The Opening Session was exciting as the state officers informed members about the state and national programs and projects for this year. Motivational speaker, Kent Julian, shared his message “Live It Forward” with the group telling them that they own their lives and if they want to be successful in life they need to make wise decisions as young people. At the conclusion of the session, members were released to enjoy an afternoon at the Georgia National Fair. FCCLA Officers Installed at Annual Family Night Supper
L to R – Anyssa Goolsby, Hillary Curtis, Kanyssa Goolsby, Janna Wright, Hope Martin, and Hannah Leverrett Recently the 2011-2012 Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America held their annual Family Night Supper and officer installation ceremony. With approximately 35 FCCLA members and their families in attendance, the group enjoyed a pot luck dinner followed by the installation ceremony. The officers are as follows: Pam Haire adviser to the Irwin FCCLA chapter says, “I am excited about the enthusiasm of this group of officers and their abilities to lead our chapter. We have a lot of worthwhile projects and activities planned for this year. We hope others will get involved as well.”
Team members are L to R – Robert Aultman, Janna Wright, Zoe Poole, and Sarah Paulk As part of the FCCLA Fall Rally held at the Georgia National Fair, the Irwin County chapter participated in the annual Knowledge Bowl competition. The team was given approximately 200 general Family and Consumer Science questions on topics ranging from the traditional cooking and sewing information to insurance and money management topics to relationships and job related topics. They also had approximately 200 questions related to history, facts, programs, and projects about FCCLA. The team competed against over 40 other school and came out ranked 4th in the overall competition. The exciting part is that three of the four team members will return for competition next year!!! |
