North Clayton High school FCCLA held a F.A.C.T.S week. F.A.C.T.S stands for Families Acting for Community Traffic Safety. NCHS’s own Amber Turner who is the V.P. of F. A. C. T. S. had a truck brought in from a junk yard of a teen that fatally died from texting and driving. The totaled vehicle was set up outside with a sign over it stating you shouldn’t text and drive. Amber Turner and her partner Zakeyia Smith set up a table outside telling the story and showing the news article as to what happened to both the truck and the teen.
Tuesday through Thursday Amber and other FCCLA members did a flash mob during lunch. As members would randomly collapse to the floor, Amber would announce in front of the Cafeteria the percentage of teens that dies from texting and driving.
On Friday Amber and her committee gathered other FCCLA senior students with a few staff members and dressed them up in make up as zombies along with a grim reaper with signs on them stating, “Ask me how I died” (on the front) and on the back it read “I was texting and driving.” This was a very successful week and she made sure she got the message across that texting and driving is an unsafe idea!
