Bonaire Middle School FCCLA
Celebrates
National FCCLA Week

The Bonaire Middle School FCCLA Chapter celebrated National FCCLA Week during February 12th-18th with many activities.  Chapter Officers met earlier in the month to plan the week long activities and to involve FCCLA chapter members, the Bonaire Middle School  student body, school administrators, faculty and staff and elected officials in the local community and state. The week began with an announcement posted on the Bonaire Middle School Marquee in front of the school on GA Highway 96.  Each day at school Chapter Officers made morning announcements providing information about the FCCLA organization.  A FCCLA Banner was also put up in the school hallway near the Family and Consumer Sciences classroom.

On Tuesday, FCCLA members served cake and refreshments for Teacher Appreciation Day in the teacher workroom.  Red Velvet Cake and beverages were enjoyed during the day.  Mayor James Faircloth, Jr. of Perry, GA also spoke to the eighth grade FACS classes about leadership, teamwork, dressing for success, and other workplace readiness skills he uses in everyday as a businessman.  He also shared with the classes his duties and responsibilities that he uses as the Mayor of Perry, GA.  Mayor Faircloth later met with the FCCLA Chapter Officers to sign of the National FCCLA Week Proclamation as Fox News 24 taped the signing for their evening show.  The segment was aired the same evening and also included an interview with Bonaire Middle FCCLA Chapter Officer, Shelby Burnette.  Shelby shared some of the activities she has participated in with FCCLA this school year and why FCCLA is an important part of her life as a student.

On Wednesday afternoon, FCCLA Chapter Members met after school in the FACS classroom for a FCCLA party including refreshments, games and music.  The entertainment was enjoyed by the members that attended.

Thursday was “FCCLA Chapter Tee Shirt Day” and “FCCLA Day at the Capitol”.  Chapter Members were encouraged to wear their local FCCLA Tee Shirts to school on this day.  Five local FCCLA chapter members traveled to Atlanta, GA to meet FCCLA State Officers and Chapter Members from across Georgia under the dome at the Georgia Capitol.  A large number of FCCLA Chapter Members and Chapter Advisers attended the event which reinforced the importance that Career Technical Student Organizations play in the lives of middle and high school students.  A tour of the World of Coke Museum was also enjoyed in the afternoon before returning home.

Friday was “Red-Out Day”.  Everyone was encouraged to wear something red to school.  Red is one of the FCCLA colors which represents strength and courage for FCCLA Members.

National FCCLA Week activities at Bonaire Middle School were a new addition to this school year because this is the school’s first year with an affiliated FCCLA Chapter.  The Chapter is affiliated through Middle Level Affiliation at both the national and state levels.  Chapter Members are busy preparing for Region STAR Events which will be held on February 25th in Perry, GA.  Bonaire Middle FCCLA will compete in five events.  Chapter Adviser for the Bonaire Middle School FCCLA Chapter is Mrs. Alice Mullis.
